Brain scans show that virtually all parts of the brain have identified functions and show activity throughout the day. Even during sleep, significant portions of the brain remain active. While we don’t use every neuron simultaneously—which would actually cause a seizure—we use all regions of our brain regularly for different functions including movement, sensory processing, emotion, and cognition.

3. Eating Carrots Dramatically Improves Vision

While carrots contain beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A—essential for eye health—eating carrots won’t give you superhuman vision or allow you to throw away your glasses. This myth originated as British propaganda during World War II to conceal the development of radar technology. The government credited their pilots’ success at shooting down German planes to excellent eyesight from eating carrots. While severe vitamin A deficiency can cause vision problems, and carrots can help prevent that deficiency, eating extra carrots beyond nutritional needs won’t improve normal vision.
